The Municipality of West Elgin Zoning By-law regulates the use of land, buildings and structures and the general use of property. It also protects environmentally and ecologically sensitive lands, natural heritage features and lands impacted by development.
By-law 2015-36 was enacted by Council on the 28th day of May, 2015. Latest consolidation was completed December 2023

Application to amend the Zoning By-law:
After reviewing the Zoning for your property, if the use, building or structure you are proposing is not permitted on your property, you will require a zoning by-law amendment.
Planning Pre-application Consultation is required prior to application(s) submission with the Municipality of West Elgin and applicable agencies.
Zoning By-law Amendment Application
The application fees is dependent on type; and is broken down into the following:
- Zoning By-law Amendment $1,350
- Holding Symbol Removal $600
- Temporary Use By-law $1,250
- Temporary Use By-law Extension Request: $650
- Zoning Certificate/Letter: $80

(PLEASE NOTE: AS OF JULY 1, 2022 WEST ELGIN WILL ALSO BE COLLECTING A REVIEW FEE ON BEHALF OF THE LOWER THAMES VALLEY CONSERVATION AUTHORITY. THIS FEE IS BASED ON THE TYPE OF APPLICATION. PLEASE CONSULT WITH STAFF PRIOR TO SUBMISSION TO DETERMINE THE APPLICABLE AMOUNT.)
This application is a fillable form that must be signed in front of a Commissioner of Oaths and Affidavits. Please contact the Municipal Office to book an appointment for signing.
