Applications and Permits

The Municipality of West Elgin issues a variety of different applications, licences and permits to help you access municipal services. Whether you want to apply for a lottery licence, marriage licence, or community grant, we can help. Completed applications can be sent direct to clerk@westelgin.net.

Animal licences

We issue kennel permits to regulate dog kennels and keep our community safe. Learn how to apply for a kennel licence and explore our animal control services.

Building and development

If you are renovating your home or adding a building to your property, you need a building permit. We also issue development applications for site plans, minor variances, and severances.

Burn permits 

If you would like to have an open air fire, you need a burn permit. Learn how to apply for a permit and view our fire regulations.

Road Occupancy/Entrance Permits

If you require a new laneway or entrance to a property, you will require an Entrance permit.  Road Occupancy Permit is if you are doing work on or around a road (including below road).  

Permit Fee: $120

Entrance Permit refundable deposit: $450

Road Occupancy refundable deposit: $1,100
