Commissioner of Oaths Services
A Commissioner of Oaths is a person who is authorized by the Province of Ontario to take an oath when you sign an affidavit or statutory declaration. They are given this authority by the Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act. The Commissioner is not responsible for the content of the affidavit.
West Elgin has two Commissioners of Oaths. They can witness your signature on legal documents like a transfer of vehicle ownership or proof of residency. We do not have a Notary Public in our office.
We recommend calling the office prior to attending the Municipal Office to ensure one of our Commissioners is available to help you.
What you need
You will need to bring valid photo identification which shows your full name, signature, and address. A driver's license is an example of what we accept.
Fee
We do not charge a fee for this service.
