Day of Action Against Asian Racism

 Whereas the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms 15(1) states that Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability; and

 Whereas every resident of West Elgin deserves safe public spaces without fear of discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental and physical disability; and

 Whereas May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada; and

 Whereas many municipalities across Canada have seen a drastic increase in anti-Asian racism;

 Now Therefore I, Duncan McPhail, Mayor of the Municipality of West Elgin do hereby proclaim May 10, 2021 to be “A DAY OF ACTION AGAINST ASIAN RACISM” in the Municipality of West Elgin.
